Here are some of the tips I got from those which I would like to share with you today:

Place potted plants right in your kitchen windows. Potted plants serve as very good air filters and carbon dioxide reducers to your homes. They are also great in trapping the “food smells” and in giving your kitchens a fresh air. Aside from all of these listed benefits, potted plants are also great as decorations and improving the aesthetic appeal of your kitchens.

Tip number 2: when you are in the midst of remodeling your kitchen cabinets, just try to strip off the paint and place your new desired color paying particular attention to paint products that are low in VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). This method is relatively easier, more cost-efficient and is more beneficial to the environment as your trash bin will not pile up with old cabinet junk.

Tip number three: avoid buying a new set of furniture pieces; rather opt for your old ones by giving it a fresh updated look. If you are in need of an extra china cabinet in your kitchen to store your precious plates and utensils, try to place an old bookshelf into the wall. Your old bookshelf will have a new, creative reuse as a kitchen china cabinet. Loving our planet means conserving our resources and doing everything to clear the air of its toxins- one at a time.

It’s springtime once more and I can observe that at this time people seem to be more jovial and cheerful, thanks to the Spring spirit that never fails to put a cheer on everyone’s face. Spring is definitely the start of a new season, the start of yet another fun-filled and great adventures for all of us. Spring festivals are great venues to celebrate the onset of Spring and at these places, Cook-offs are very much in demand.

Treat your tastebuds to a whirlwind of tour as a Spring Cook-off in your neighborhood gives you delectable and mouth watering treats. At Spring Cook-offs people try to contribute their best tasting treat every now and then. We can see chefs and restaurant owners at the top of their game who are showing off their culinary prowess to the public.

There are usual recipes at Cook-offs and these are barbecue, seafood, lamb and other grilled or smoked culinary treats. This is so because the activity of grilling and the smoke that emanates from a grill further enrich the experience of being in Craft fairs or Spring fairs. The most famous cook-off by the way in the country is the Arizona Chili cook-off, wherein a juried shows is created to judge the best tasting and spiciest barbecue recipe in the fair. This cook-off is annually done to promote public awareness on the historical and cultural significance of chili and to further the drive to make Chili as the National Vegetable of America.

Juried cook-offs are attended by a panel of judges that individually taste and rank the food based on the available criteria. The winning entry usually wins a cash prize and a special recognition for his/her outstanding recipe. Cook-offs are great places to have a full and satisfied stomach.

A film festival is shown in Illinois every onset of Spring or during the month of April which is called the Eberfest. The name came from the founder of this festival who is Roger Ebert. The festival is also formerly called as “The Overlooked Film Festival”. It features films that are “overlooked” by viewers but are very meaningful and great films to watch. These mostly comprises of indie films or international short films. Ebert is the one who personally handpicks the movies for showing.

On a quick history, Ebertfest was formerly called as Roger Ebert’s Overlooked Film Festival. It is organized by the College of Communication in the University of Illinois. It will be held at the nostalgic and famous Virginia Theatre of Champaign. Every year, 12 to 14 films are being shown at the festival. Ebert really makes it a point to offer the public very good and quality “overlooked” films through his prestigious festival. It is deemed to be a place where one can see “unheard of” quality films.

Each year, the festival shows one silent film together with a live orchestral accompaniment. An example of a silent film that the festival has shown is the famous horror flick: “Nosferatu”. Musical films are also shown once in a while at the festival because Ebert feels that it is also overlooked. The Ebertfest really gave the “overlooked” films much exposure and mileage.

Before the start of the film festival, Ebert is known to give speeches and introductory remarks about each film. He enthusiastically gives everyone a preview and slight synopsis of each story without going into the full details to still contain the mystery and curiousness of the audience. It is safe to say that Roger Ebert is a film aficionado himself for having to come up with this kind of festival each year.

If you are visiting from Illinois, never forget to experience one of Illinois’ finest by attending the Ebertfest this year.

The Dayton Ole Tyme Days Festival is held to help raise funds for the local youth scholarships. For this year the festival will be held on April 17 to April 19, 2009. The location of the festival will be at the downtown area of Dayton, Texas, located at U.S. Hwy 90 between Houston and Beaumont.

Over the years that the Dayton Ole Tyme Days Festival has been held it has grown bigger and better. Based on previous years attendees there are about 20,000 attendees. Remember that you will not only have the time of your life but you got to help the local youth at the same time.

There will be a lot of activities schedule for the weekend. There will be bakeoffs, car show, carnival rides, BBQ Cookoff, Cook Team Photos. There will be different live bands performing live like Benjamin Brighteyes Band and Philip Griffin Band on Friday evening at 9:00 P.M. and Mike Adkins on Saturday at 9:00 P.M.

For craft and arts vendors who are interested in attending this wonderful festival would need to submit a signed application with pictures and slide of their work of art. These pictures or slides will not be returned if you will not get accepted. In the application the vendors will need to list down all the items that are going to be displayed. The vendors will be charged a space fee of $75.00 for a 10×10 booth that will be for the two days of the event. If the vendors will display items that are not in the list submitted then the vendor will be charged an additional $15.00.

Vendors will be allowed to set up their booths on April 17 evening. Then on April 18 from 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M the festival will officially start. On April 19 the festival will open from 10:00 A.M. and officially close on 4:00 P.M.

Some often claim that a huge cake, a designer wedding gown, the best shoes and the priciest venue can make the perfect wedding. This is utterly wrong as the success of a wedding could not be measured by how expensive the couple spent on it. There will be a concert by the Gypsy Nomads at The Magic Candle on April 2, 2009 the concert will start 7:00 P.M. The Magic Candle is located at 204 S., Audabon St. It will not be hard for anyone to find this because it is found at the center of Irvington.

When you attend the concert do not expect to hear the traditional gypsy songs. The Gypsy Nomads play a different kind of music it is more of a hybridized version of the gypsy music. Music that has was created from punk, folk and the vineyards of southern France. From this base type of music they added cabaret, celtic and neo-medieval flavor to make The Gypsy Nomads type of music.

Even though The Gypsy Nomads is not the typical kind of gypsy song, they still have a very lively kind of music. Some would even consider their music as a high octane and exciting by people who have heard their music. This two men band with Samantha Stephenson for their vocals, percussion, drums and is the songwriter of the group. While Scott Helland that does the guitar, drums, and loops. They are French born artists.

All over the US the Gypsy Nomads have performed in festivals, clubs, theaters, conventions, galleries, cafes and house concerts. They sing their songs in English and French and the combination of their guitar and percussion instruments will make any music lover happy.

Not only have they performed live on concerts and festivals but they have been featured in films like Rider. There music has even been licensed for TV use by We TV Network and Harpo Productions. There will be no admission fee but there is $5.00 parking fee per vehicle for the entire event. This event will feature different activities that everyone will enjoy. There will auctions of live stock and equipments and swap meet.

On April 15, 2009 from 12:00 noon to 5:00 P.M. and April 16 from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. vendors will be allowed to set up and checkin. The auction will start on April 17 from 8:00 A.M. with the tack, harness, small items, and antiques in the arena until noon. After this the Blacksmithing and Farrier tools will follow until dark. Then the Farm implements and misc. large items held outside the arena from 1:00 P.M. until dark.

The Harness, carriage related small items and antiques will be auctioned on April 18 from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. Then from 10:30 A.M. until dark the Carriages, Wagons, Coaches, and Sleighs etc will auction. On April 19 there will be a Horse sale starting from 9:00 A.M. when this is done the items that were not sold will be presented again.

On May 9, 2009 there will be a SHOP to STOP Violence Craft and Vendor Fair from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. The location of this SHOP to STOP Violence Craft and Vendor Fair is at the St. Mary’s Parish Hall, 1 St. Mary’s Way, Pawtucket, RI 02860. This event is sponsored by the Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center

This non-profit organization aims to stop all form of domestic violence. The Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center provides services to help the victims of domestic violence. It also provides a venue where the public will learn more and become more aware of domestic violence. The Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center members and staff are a dedicated group that base their works on the voices, the struggles and experiences the victims has.

Based from the US Department of Justice in every 15 seconds there is an American woman who is physically abused by an intimate partner or by a family member. The medical Association even says that about a quarter of the American woman has been physically abused by a partner at one time in her life. This domestic violence does not only have a negative effect on the victim but for the people surrounding the abuser and victim especially the children who witness the abuse.

In order to help provide the fund for the services offered to the victims of domestic violence the SHOP to STOP Violence Craft and Vendor Fair was created. The Blackstone Valley Advocacy Center is looking for craft, art and retail vendors that can display unique forms of art. The promoters do not need Usborne Books, Tastefully Simple, Avon, Jewelry, Home & Garden Party and Pampered Chef.

For craft, arts and retail vendors who wish to attend this show there will be a space of $50.00 and an item that will be donated for the raffle draws. Vendors will be allowed to set the booth up from 7:45 A.M. to 8:45 A.M.
